Police Officers Bring Power to the People with Op Recharge

Thursday, April 17, 2025

Police officers in Blackpool and Fylde are set to be equipped with portable power banks and mobile phone charging wires, as part of new Operation Recharge.

The operation sees six new power banks in use across Blackpool and Fylde, with at least one available on every shift. Officers will be highly visible in the town centres with power banks to assist those in need of phone battery for vital information such as hotel details, bank access or a friend’s phone number.

As the weather looks to improve in the coming months, a high volume of tourists are expected to visit the Blackpool and the Fylde Coast, and it has been found that not everyone remembers their hotel and location which is saved on booking emails. This will alleviate pressures on police resources and partners and allow for a swift solution.

It is hoped that by having power banks readily available, Police in Blackpool and Fylde can help prevent people becoming situationally vulnerable and will reduce their chances of becoming victims of crime while intoxicated or lost.

PC Kerry Marrs, who is leading the operation, said: “We know people love to visit the Blackpool and Fylde area during the summer months, be that for a family day out for to enjoy the nighttime economy, and it’s our job to make sure that they have a safe and happy visit.

“By having these power banks readily available on every shift we are bringing a simple yet effective option to those who are visiting and are unable to access vital information from their phones.

“Anyone who has lost power on their phone, please do come and chat to officers as they conduct their patrols, and we can ensure you get back to your friends or hotel safely.”
