Blackpool and Fylde Police Cadets raise over £1,000 in 24-hour ‘swimathon’

Thursday, February 15, 2024

Police Cadets from the Blackpool and Fylde unit took part in their biggest fundraising challenge yet and have raised £1,385 so far.

Starting from 12pm on Saturday 10th February, over 30 Cadets took part in a 24-hour ‘swimathon’ joined by swimmers from Blackpool Beach Patrol Veterans, Kirkham and Wesham Amateur Swimming Club, and crew from Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

A total of 4,690 lengths were swam at Palatine Leisure Centre in Blackpool, which is the equivalent of swimming across the English Channel just over three times.

All money raised will go to the RNLI to commemorate their 200th anniversary.

Cadet Coordinator Nikki Leigh said: “After our 30-hour ‘cyclathon’ back in 2022, we knew we could find another exciting way to raise money for a deserving cause.

“We are so proud of our Cadets who showed such determination and teamwork.

“I want to thank everyone involved in making the event a success.”
